 Use of ‘Some’ and ‘Any’

Some और Any दोनों ही adjective हैं, जो number, quantity, (संख्या, मात्रा ) दिखाने के लिए प्रयुक्त किये जाते हैं. Some का अर्थ ‘कुछ’ या ‘थोड़ा’ होता है तथा ‘Any’ का अर्थ होता है ‘कोई’’ या ‘कुछ’ जैसे –

some books (कुछ पुस्तकें ) some tea (थोड़ी चाय)

any problem (कोई समस्या), any student(s) (कोई छात्र)

Some का प्रयोग (Use of Some)

पहला प्रयोग -

‘Some’ का प्रयोग सकारात्मक वाक्यों में Plural Nouns या Material Nouns के पहले किया जाता है. जैसे –

Some boys are playing there. कुछ लड़के वहाँ खेल रहे हैं.

Some books are lying on the table. कुछ पुस्तकें टेबल पर पड़ी हुई हैं.

I take some milk before going to bed. मैं सोने से पहले थोड़ा दूध पीता हूँ.

They bought some honey. उन्होंने कुछ शहद खरीदी.

दूसरा प्रयोग -

Offers या Request (प्रस्ताव या निवेदन ) के लिए भी Some का प्रयोग किया जाता है. ऐसे वाक्य प्रश्नवाचक होते हैं. जैसे –

Will you spare some time for me? क्या आप मेरे लिए कुछ समय निकालेंगे?

Would you like to have some more tea? क्या आप कुछ (थोड़ी) और चाय लेना पसंद करेंगे ? = (कृपया थोड़ी चाय और लीजिये.)

Would/ Will you please lend me some money? क्या आप मुझे कुछ धन देने की कृपा करेंगे?

तीसरा प्रयोग -

Some का प्रयोग ‘कोई या किसी’ के अर्थ में unspecified or unknown (अनिश्चित या अनजान) singular countable noun के पहले भी किया जा सकता है. जैसे –

Some girl will stand first in the class this year. इस वर्ष कोई लड़की कक्षा में प्रथम आयेगी.

Some idiot has parked his car in front of my house. किसी मूर्ख ने मेरे घर के बाहर उसकी कार को खड़ी कर दी है.

Any का प्रयोग 

Any का अर्थ होता है ‘कुछ’ या ‘कोई’ अनिश्चित संख्या या मात्रा.  Any का प्रयोग countable या uncountable, singular या plural दोनों ही प्रकार के nouns के पूर्व किया जा सकता है.

पहला प्रयोग -

‘Any’ का प्रयोग Negative (नकारात्मक) या Interrogative (प्रश्नवाचक) वाक्यों में किया जाता है. जैसे - 

He did not do any work. उसने कोई कार्य नहीं किया.

Have you any story book? क्या तुम्हारे पास कोई कहानी की पुस्तक है?

Are there any pens in the drawer? क्या दराज में कोई पेन हैं?

दूसरा प्रयोग -

वाक्य में if, whether, hardly scarcely, without होने पर भी ‘Any’ का प्रयोग किया जाता है, चाहे वाक्य affirmative ही क्यों नहीं हो?

If you need any more money, please let me know. यदि तुम्हें कुछ और धन की आवश्यकता हो तो, कृपया मुझे बता देना.

The teacher asked whether we had any questions. अध्यापक ने पूछा कि हमारे और कोई प्रश्न हैं.

He has hardly any money. उसके पास मुश्किल से ही कोई धन है.

There is scarcely any water in the jug. जग में मुश्किल से कुछ पानी है.

He lent me money without any hesitation. उसने बिना किसी हिचकिचाहट मुझे धन उधर दे दिया.

तीसरा प्रयोग –

‘Any’ का प्रयोग वस्तुओं या व्यक्तियों में से ‘कोई एक’ या ‘किसी एक’ के अर्थ में सकारात्मक वाक्यों में किया जाया है. जैसे –

Any student of class 6 can answer this question easily. कक्षा 6 का कोई (भी) विद्यार्थी इस प्रश्न का उत्तर सरलता पूर्वक दे सकता है.

Take any book you like. कोई पुस्तक जो तुम चाहो ले लो.

Any colour will do. किसी भी रंग से काम चल जायेगा.

 

(6.9.1) Generic use of 'A', 'An' and 'The'

Generic use of A, An and The 

Generic means common to a whole group or class, not special.
Look at the following sentences -
1. A cow is a gentle animal.
2.The cow is a gentle animal.
These sentences have the same meaning. They do not refer to any particular cow but to the whole class. They mean the same as :
Cows are gentle animals.
Now look at the following sentences -
1. A dog is a faithful animal.
2. The dog is a faithful animal.
3. Dogs are faithful animals.
ऊपर के वाक्यों में  A तथा  The  का प्रयोग Generic reference  में है ; क्योंकि यहाँ किसी particular dog   की चर्चा नहीं की जा रही बल्कि पूरे कुत्ता   समुदाय ( whole community or class of  dogs )  की चर्चा की जा रही है। यहाँ तीनों वाक्यों के अर्थ में  कोई अंतर नहीं है। पूरे समुदाय या जाति  का बोध करने के लिए plural noun  के पहले "The " का प्रयोग नहीं किया जाता है।
